1st round pick 2017

3B has been a big hole for my team all year.  I have been plugging in back ups and 2nd division regulars to get by.  I needed a good 3B to round out my lineup.  Carpenter has been very good this year and I hope he can stay healthy for the rest of the season.

Is it ok to pick up Matt Carpenter, put him on my DL without losing an option to another player, if and when the trade is approved? Never looked at this situation before, I assume that would be ok.
