The Rule V Draft will take place in December of each off season (exact date will be posted on the BSGM calendar). It will be held on Proboards and will consist of three rounds. In order to participate, you must have room on your 40 man roster. If you do not have sufficient room on your 40 man roster prior to the roster lock time preceding the Rule V Draft, you will forfeit all 3 of your selections. Players with any amount of MLB service time who are on another team's minor league roster will be eligible to be drafted. If, in any round, you don't make a selection, you forfeit your remaining picks.
Players selected in this draft must remain on the new (drafting) team's 26 man active roster or on one of the drafting team's disabled lists throughout the following regular season. If for any reason you choose to demote this player from your 26 man active roster to on of your other rosters you have three choices:
1. Offer the player back to the previous owner. If the previous owner accepts the Rule V player back, the player must be placed on the 40 man roster OR active roster.
2. Negotiate a trade with the previous owner to keep the player. (This will end the players Rule V status for that year and becomes sole property of the drafting team. He can then be moved among rosters according to normal rules/expectations.)
3. If the previous owner declines the player and declines a trade, the drafting team must place the Rule V player on 48 hour waivers. If he clears waivers, he can move to your 40 man and an option will be assessed. If the player is claimed by another owner, the new owner is not subjected to having to keep him on the active roster. However, if the claiming team does not place the Rule V player on their active roster, and instead places them on their 4 man roster, the player will be assessed an option.
