Two questions:
1) When can we start adding FAs via first come, first serve? 2) Do all players released during the FA Auction have to pass through waivers?

If I remember correctly, FA continues through opening day. Then they are first come first serve during the season for 1yr 2 million. I think that was overlooked in the debate over trades during FA. So guys that look good in spring training can be bid on also.

Sorry to disagree with Darren as he’s been here longer, but it was my understanding (and memory?) that once 24 hours has passed with no more bids, FAA auction has ended and 40 man rosters unlock. Waivers have already happened and everyone is first come first served.
Anyone else want to weigh in?

Just tried to look it up, and 2018 FA auction isn't showing up for me for some reason. Its just blank in the thread. 2017 did seem to stop in mid Feb., Thought that I remembered it going to opening day at least 1 year, not sure now.

I think you both are correct. Any player without a V status is first come, first serve 24 hours after the last bid. However; V status players who went unclaimed in the FAA still have to be bid on up until opening day.
That's what I remember from previous years anyway.

I'll throw my 2 cents in as well....The FAA is over after no bids are made for 24 hours...What i suggest is that the players who were not named during the FAA AND the ones who were conditional roster releases (for the players who were signed) go into a 48 hour waiver period immediately after the FAA ends(where off season waiver rules are followed). After that period, all players are first come first serve...

Just another note...If you look at the Bernie Williams (SAMPLE) comments at the bottom of the page of Free Agents it says auction ends after 24 hours with no bids

It looks like the auction will probably end in the next day or two, so we should probably finalize the rule interpretation I'm assuming that's Josh.

It looks like no bids have been made for over 24 hours. This means that the FAA is officially over...players not on teams will be on waivers

Is the time of your post the official start of the 48 hour countdown?
